The boy who lives in Colonial Beach, VA, "made specific and repeated threats" on social media on Friday, June 28 to commit a shooting at the Ephrata Community Pool on Saturday, June 29, the Ephrata Police Department detailed in the release.

Community members contacted the police and "based on the serious nature of the threats and an inability to determine the veracity of the threats in a timely manner, out of an abundance of caution, pool staff elected to close the pool for Saturday, June 29," the police wrote in the release, and the pool posted on social media.

Following a "months-long investigation into the source of the threats" the boy was identified and was charged with a felony for Terroristic Threats, the police said.

The Ephrata Police Department was aided in this investigation by law enforcement agencies in Virginia.
